In 2004, as part of the marketing push to launch Toyota's SCION brand, I was tapped by marketing agency INFORM VENTURES to create a short film depicting Ahmir Questlove Thompson and King Britt in the pursuit of their driver's licenses.
Bringing on my key crew players at the time, producer Brett Henenberg and DP Masanobu Takayanagi, we descended upon Philly with open eyes and DV cameras.
When all was said and done, we'd captured interviews with just above every Philly music luminary there ever was, including Larry Gold, Vikter Duplaix, Jill Scott, Jazzy Jeff, James Poyser, Donn Thompson, Tayyib Smith, Rich Medina and more.
The resulting film screened in over 15 film festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival, and won a Silver Plaque for short documentary at the Chicago International Film Festival.
